Memo from President
Duane O'Neill
We Need
Your Thoughts
This is your Chamber of Commerce. With
that in mind, this Chamber needs your participation. On many
occasions we ask for your financial support and at other times,
we seek your presence at events. We always request that you be
informed so that you may speak confidently about your Chamber
and the activities in which we are involved.
Today we need
your insight in helping us to set our priorities as we move into
this New Year. Your Chamber leadership will soon be meeting to
consider our direction for 2005. Their task will be made easier
and much more productive if you, as our members, are part of the
process.
The MetroJackson
Chamber agenda is quite comprehensive. Over the past several
years, we have placed major emphasis on Economic Development.
This part of Chamber work involves working with existing
businesses, recruiting new business and also workforce
development. We have also focused our programs around Community
Development- encompassing education, public safety, housing and
building. Our goal is to continue creating and sustaining a
healthy community by aggressively seeking improvements on issues
relating to transportation and special projects such as
Lefleur’s Lake.
Our Membership
Services Division is constantly exploring additional tangible
benefits for our members. Networking opportunities and access to
affordable health care are just two examples of benefits
provided exclusively to members.
Within your
Chamber’s portfolio are many other important initiatives.
However, it would be redundant to outline every program and I
trust you are aware of most of our current activity. Perhaps you
already have thoughts brewing and wish to share them as a result
of this week’s column. We are keenly aware that our membership
is our strongest asset. We work for you. So it just makes good
sense to seek the wisdom of those who are in the marketplace and
at the center of business and commerce in this MetroJackson
community. Please share your opinions so that we can take a
fresh look at our agenda for 2005.
In all these
efforts it is crucial to remember that we are the “Metro”
Chamber of Commerce. We are the organization that sees only one
Metro community--- not restricted by political or jurisdictional
lines. Think regionally in your responses. Our strength is in
our diversity.
We will be
anxiously awaiting your input. Please call Lindsay James at
948-7575 (email ljames@metrochamber.com) or email me directly (doneill@metrochamber.com)
